Kuka Light is a 2012 project by my friend Franco Niggler, featuring Mitch Boot as a skipper. An avant-garde project for constructive solutions, a 40’ boat was built entirely in carbon. It was produced in an autoclave in Sweden at the Marstrom shipyard, and assembled in Italy by Cantieri Soleri, just like the +39. For this project, we produced the carbon keel and a 1000 kilogram bulb, CNC milled and all mechanical details crafted in special steel and titanium which related to the canting movement of the keel. The carbon mast that used the Extreme 40 catamaran mast, was also produced by Marstrom in Sweden. This mast completed the supply of this lightweight boat which stood up to the. VOR 70’ in downwind speed.
